    2023 FOCUS ON DESIGN

     

    This salute to design excellence was established to promote and focus attention on Miami Valley architecture firms producing quality and high-performance design in adherence to the American Institute of Architect's Framework for Design Excellence. The jury will evaluate all projects based on the aesthetic, functional, contextual, and social characteristics of the design

    The goal of the Focus on Design Awards program is to focus on high-quality projects designed by AIA Dayton members.    All AIA Dayton members (Emeritus, Professional, Associate, and Professional Affiliates) in good standing are eligible to submit entries regardless of project size, budget, geographic location, or building type.

      • Submission Fee: $20; AIA Membership is not required
      • Details: Student work can be a built or unbuilt project designed by a student within the last 5 years but
      • cannot be affiliated with an architecture firm. Refer to “Eligible Submissions” above to additional
      • eligibility questions. This category will have a separate jury

    • CATEGORY 6: Architectural Photography Competition
    • ENTRY DEADLINE OCTOBER 1
      • Definition: The subject matter for the photography competition is of Dayton or the Greater Dayton Area that must have an architectural theme or contain some element of the human-made environment. Photographic interpretation of the subject matter is the issue, not the architecture. Entries must have been exposed by,and be owned by, the entrant . Refer to “Eligible Submissions” above for additional eligibility questions. This category will have a separate jury and later deadline (October 1, 2023).
      • Submission Fee: $15 Fee per submission (Limit of 5 submissions per individual)
      • The competition was founded to capture and honor architects, design professionals, architectural students, and professional and amateur
      • photographers whose amazing talents are showcased in their photographic interpretation of the designed environment. By entering the
      • Competition, you hereby accept these competition rules:
      • - To qualify to enter the competition, you must be in high school or over 18 years of age.
      • - This competition is open to both Professional and Amateur photographers alike.
      • - This competition is open to AIA members, Non-members, and students alike.
      • - The subject matter is of Dayton or the Greater Dayton Area that must have an architectural theme or contain some element of the
      • human-made environment.
      • - Each participant can submit up to 5 photos at a cost of $15 per submission.
      • - The photographer(s) must be the author(s) of the pictures submitted in his/her/their name.
      • - Photographs submitted CANNOT include professionally commissioned photographs.
      • - All submitted photographs will be judged in the same category no matter what the level of experience of the photographer.
      • - Eligible photographs can include the use of all professional editing equipment and software as well as all mobile device photograph
      • apps and software. (For example, Lightroom, Instagram, etc.)
      • - All photograph images must have been taken on or after January 1, 2021.
